Thanksgiving

My previous blog was about my trip with friends to lake Tahoe. But that was only the first part of the Thanksgiving break. After four amazing and soothing days at the lake, my friends and I drove further north, to Redding. What’s in Redding? Probably the sweetest family you could have ever met: My American friend, inspired by her year abroad in Copenhagen, adopted me, and my friends who are also exchange students, for Thanksgiving.

To celebrate Thanksgiving with this family was everything that any international could have dreamt of, it was like in the movies. Family from all over the States came over to the house in Redding: family from Michigan, family from Washington, family from Oregon, and more family from California. For four days, there were about twenty-five American people, and us, internationals, at the house. We felt a part of the family from the start: as soon as we stepped out of our rental car, we were welcomed with open arms, the family involved us in every activity. We went on walks with the entire family, we played games, we walked the dogs, and most importantly, we spent entire days cooking and preparing for the great Thanksgiving meal. In was such a warm feeling to spend our days in the kitchen, baking pumpkin pies and making stuffing for the turkey.

On Thanksgiving night itself, we all took a moment to say what we are Thankful for, that was naturally not very difficult: we we’re so thankful for this amazing family that adopted us for the holidays.
