The Burrito

We heard it the first day of orientation: Mexican food is San Francisco’s cuisine.

Never did we imagine, however, that meat, beans, sour cream and rice would become our student dinner oh so fast.

Living in the Mission, the ultimate location for the city’s best taquerias, it is almost embarrassing entering Taqueria Cancun, located between 18th and 19th street, because the chefs there saw us the day before, and the day before that again, and even the day before that.

But who can blame us? Coming from the most expensive city in the world (Oslo, Norway) paying $3 (sharing a Super burrito is the key) for a dinner is almost criminal.

It is not so much embarrassing entering the same place at night: post-beer goes perfectly with a hot burrito – and we don’t remember how we begged for extra nachos and hot sauce the day after.

Not until we wake up with guacamole in our hair and tortilla chips between the bed sheets.

“The student meal” is a dish which, I suppose, every city has one’s own.

In San Francisco this is the burrito.
