The Hang Out City

I had a friend visit me from home recently and so obviously it was my duty to show her just why I love SF so much.

First of all, I took her to all the touristy places – Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Union Square, the beach, Dolores Park…. Now, I know there are a LOT of museums in SF therefore lots to do. But my friend wanted to see what I like to do.

Now, I feel like I’ve done a lot whilst I’ve been here but it turns out that my SF friends and I really just like to hang out. We like going to cafes and restaurants that we haven’t tried before, checking out neighbourhoods that we haven’t explored, spending time in neighbourhoods we have explored and loved. It seems we spend a lot of time doing… not a lot really.

Maybe that sounds disappointing to some – coming all this way just to hang out. But I love travelling around this fair city being reminded of good times spent with good people. So, I may not have been to the Asian Art Museum or the California Academy of Sciences, but I can take you to a kick-ass restaurant on Mission, and the best bar in The Castro. I know where to get the best sandwich on the way to the beach and where to stock up on supplies for the perfect afternoon in Dolo. Overall, I don’t consider any of that a bad thing. In fact, I love it. I feel like I know this city well by now but every now and again my “hanging out” leads me to a new discovery.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a hang out city.
