The Ins and Outs of the First Month…

So far been in this amazing city for a month and a half now, and what a whirlwind it’s been, for both me and my roommate/travelling companion! We’ve covered the customary tourist destinations… the Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Ocean Beach, Union Square, Baker beach. And, it’s all amazing. What I didn’t bank on was the added adventure of a ride in an ambulance – in fact I was rushed into hospital (my first time in an ambulance and very exciting – think grey’s anatomy or ER). Upon arrival, me and my before mentioned roomie were ushered into an amazing private room – with an en suite no less. Anyone from Britain will appreciate this luxurious image! This was around four in the morning and the place was pretty dead. Within an hour, I was told I was most likely suffering with gall stones, and was going to be having an ultra sound. I was impressed with the time efficiency of the hospital. But, also panicking – will my mum have to resell the house, or at the very least, re mortgage? I had promised before I left that under no circumstances would I become ill! It’s not free like it is back home. However, the next day, after spending the night in the hospital, I’d had an ultrasound, and MRI scan, and surgery booked to have my gall bladder removed the following Friday. I felt a mixture of emotions, relief that the pain would soon end, but, I wanted to be with my mum, who, yes, does take care of me when I’m ill. Yes, I am 21, okay! The whole experience was an emotional rollercoaster. I had my gall bladder removed, was back at home the same day as my surgery, and resting. Wow, things do get done quickly over here, and thank goodness we took out that insurance! Let this be a lesson to all! And guess what? Here I am a week later with just having spent the day at the beach, swam in the sea, drank beer, and topped it off with a Maccies.

Anyway, little blip over with now and back to lectures, sight-seeing and partying. Just what I came for.
