Utah

Over spring break, I embarked on a road trip (with my visiting dad) to Utah. I’ve never been in that area of America so I thought this year would be a great opportunity for me to see a bit of what more central America has to offer, particularly given its radically different landscapes and cultures.

The drive to Utah took almost 13 hours, which was pretty intense but we stopped at enough kooky little mountain towns to grab coffee that it was worth it. We drove across the Loneliest Highway in America, which more or less did what it said on the tin – although there were a fair few other drivers on the road. It was just super galvanising to be out of the city for a while and really see a different side of this country.

We explored Bryce Canyon National Park and its famous hoodoos, which, owing to the time of year, were all snow covered. It was a rare and amazing sight to see. Then, we drove to Zion National Park, which was equally stunning – full of gorgeous vistas and high peaks; then finally Arches National Park, which was exactly how the Wild West is portrayed in films. Safe to say we listened to a lot of Kacey Musgraves on the ride back…
