Howdy from Austin, TX

Howdy from Texas!

My goal during the exchange semester in San Francisco is to see and visit as many places in the US as I can and now, after almost four months I can say that I have seen quit a lot. My last adventure was a weekend trip with a friend to Austin in Texas. You might be wondering why did I choose that city. Well, it is not a typical touristic city, much more a typical American student city. But there is one thing about Austin, which is known between music lovers. Austin is the capital for Music and hosts some world famous music festivals. And that is what brought us there! From Jazz and Blues to Funky, Hip Hop, Rock – Austins’ bars play it all and that for free mainly. You can just easily fill your day with life music.

As Austin is a city Texas, everyone lives the cowboy-spirit here. It is not a big thing here to meet people who are wearing cowboy-boots and hats and you find barbecue on each corner. Although it might sound conservative, Austin is the opposite of it. The city is one of the hippest and most divers places I have ever seen. I think that the Food truck culture emerged here, because you see the trucks on every corner. Furthermore, Austin is one of the most popular places to study in the States, therefore students, young and recent college graduates are a big part of Austins’ population. Maybe that is the reason for all the hipness and creative subjects, which are spread out through the city.

Even if Austin is not the prettiest city, it offers many interesting spots see and explore. The city is full with art, you can find graffiti, interesting museums and colorful art subjects on every corner.

If you want to have a complete different experience while you’re studying in SF, I highly recommend you to visit Austin. For me it is clear: I will see you again Austin, at least for the most famous music festival in the world “South by Southwest”.

Enjoy the Music!
