What? Did you say its over? No way!

While writing this blog, I sit in the SFSU library for the last time in my life probably. Because today is my last day of classes, the assignments are done, the finals are all behind me – the semester is almost done. It is difficult to realize that I am done and I am closing that chapter at SFSU, especially after the last two very tough weeks. I remember how much I was looking forward to the semester and now I am at the finish line already… unbelievable and scary, that the time is running so fast here.

Dear exchange students, take this into account: If you think before you go to SF, you will have a plenty of time and will be able to do everything you were looking forward to, I must disappoint you. Be prepared for the fact, that you will feel like running after time and wishing to stop it sometimes.

Therefore I strongly recommend you to make plans what do you want to visit during your semester abroad, to think about your goals you want to achieve, already before you are here. It will safe your valuable time and the result will make more fun. But be aware that it doesn’t mean to plan every single trip in advance, because there are always unexpected adventures waiting for us and you should be open to them. Furthermore, do not forget that you are still studying here and please do not underestimate the amount of work, which is large.

Before I started my semester in San Francisco I did a bit research about the areas I would like to visit online or by asking friends who were there for their recommendation. So my ideas were to go to the Yosemite National Park, drive the Highways Number One down to LA, go to Grand Canyon and fly to Hawaii. I am lucky to say that I could realize all these plans and it is an unforgettable experience! At the same time I met people who had other great ideas and suggestions, for example I went to Austin in Texas because some American friends recommended it, I am writing about it in another blog. I highly recommend you to take advantage of your visa and arrive one month before the university starts or stay one month longer after uni is finished and use the time for traveling. I am taking the second option and will stay in the states for one month longer. Trust me, you will be able to fill that month because there is soooo much to see and enjoy!

Well, I think you got my main intention. Therefore, be smart, adventurous, make plans and enjoy that unforgettable time in the states, because you probably will never be so independent again!

Have fun!

Your Anja
